Arpan

Level 2, 2010; Level 2, 2009; Level 1, 2008

Arpan reduces the prevalence and effects of child sex abuse (CSA) by running Personal Safety Education classes in schools, by educating teachers and parents, and by counselling people who have gone through abuse. So far, 8000 children and adults have been impacted by the work of Arpan. Pooja, a graphic designer by profession, saw the play ‘Bitter Chocolate’ on CSA and was deeply moved. She found statistics of high prevalence of CSA in India and discovered that only two non-profits work exclusively on CSA in India. This inspired the idea of Arpan. She was recently awarded the National Child Health Award by Hindustan Unilever.
