Under the Mango Tree (UTMT) improves incomes for primary producers by enhancing their capacity to access markets and through value addition. UTMT also simultaneously makes agriculture more productive and sustainable. So far, UTMT has trained over 456 farmers in partnership with BAIF and BASIX, equipping them to place over 1538 bee-boxes on their farms in tribal villages in Gujarat and Maharashtra. UTMT has also provided direct market access to approximately 700 bee keepers from across 8 states and generated a revenue of 11 Lacs INR. Recently, UTMT has received Village Capital's investment of USD 75K. Vijaya has worked with a number of non-profits like DFID & Aga Khan Foundation on natural resource management and livelihoods enhancement programs. Her professional experiences made her realise that long-term market linkages enable poor rural producers improve their quality of life.
